Roll Off Dumpster Rental – Don’t over fill your Container

I know sometimes when we’re in the heat of a project and the garbage and construction material is flying we don’t always pay close enough to the capacity of the dumpster you rented. This could not only cost you time but also money… time “is” money during a construction project and let’s face it, in this economy we need to watch every dime we spend in every aspect of a project needing a dumpster.

Make sure to never fill the Roll-Off higher than the sides.  The Construction and Garbage Materials must not be higher than the can’s top edge at any point.  We are not able to tarp the container correctly/safely.  A dumpster hauler has the right to not haul the Roll-Off if overloaded and nobody wants that. So make sure you pay attention to your can or you may have to “Off-Load” the container some to make it legal for travel.

A good way to load your container is to walk or wheel barrow your debris in through the swing door on the back end of the dumpster instead of throwing it over the side. This way you can load the can more efficiently and always see where your holes are and your level. Of course sometimes the construction material may be too heavy to walk in and heavy equipment is needed. In this case have you crew pay attention to the level. We can always do a pull and return with an empty dumpster if you run into a case where you’ve underestimated the amount of garbage you have.

When deciding on the size of the dumpster you’ll need, we can help. Our years of service to the Jacksonville FL market have allowed us to see virtually every need and use of roll off and construction dumpster rental. We can help you estimate the volume of debris your project will produce and the appropriate size can you’ll need.  We lease 10 yard, 20 yard, 30 yard and 40 yard dumpsters depending on the size of your project. While a roofing project mad only need a 10-20 yard dumpster, a kitchen remodel may need a 20-30 yard container. Make sure you let us know if you’re unsure of the size you’ll need.

We’re always here to help.

Renting a Dumpster and the Watching the Weather

Watch the weather.  While your hauler can haul your dumpster in almost any weather condition, RAIN is something to really take caution of. When you are doing any kind of remodeling, renovation or just a plain old home cleanout, we recommend you tarp your dumpster.

Why you might ask? Due to the nature of the materials we use everyday in our homes, albeit garbage or building materials, they soak up water like a sponge. Any carpet, drywall, wood mattresses and garbage that may get wet from the rain will no doubt add considerable weight to your dumpster load and with that more expense. You will pay and pay big time for overage costs at the landfill for water that has soaked into your garbage and debris.

Maybe this has happened to you before. Perhaps you got your bill from your dumpster hauler with a ton or two of overage expenses, adding another $40-80 to your overall project expense and you couldn’t believe it until you saw the ticket from the landfill for yourself. You knew without any doubt the ballpark of your disposal weight. Think back to the weather. Did it rain? If it did you now know the hard pill the weather can be to swallow when renting a dumpster in “sunny” Florida.

In today’s economy there’s no need to pay for needless expenses when you’re renting a dumpster, especially when it’s something that is as easily avoided as this.

So make sure you watch the weather and put a tarp over your next dumpster rental. Your wallet will thank you later.

Dumpster Rental Fees in Jacksonville FL

So here’s a great question to ask your hauler when getting a quote. “How many days are you allowed to use the Roll-Off dumpster before a daily fee is charged?”

This could be a costly problem if not disclosed properly and on the front end of your quote…especially if you have a slower moving project. Or maybe there’s a holiday during your rehab and you’re going to need to have the rental dumpster sitting there while your team takes a break.

You will usually find a range of rental fees from $0 to $5 per day. You’ll need to ask if there are dumpster rental fees associated with this quote and when do they begin. Is it from day one or perhaps after 30 days? In either case, make sure you know upfront so you can factor it in to your dumpster rental and disposal budget.

Truly, I would say if the garbage hauler you’re talking to is giving you a quote with ANY type of rental fee, you should move on to the next one on the list. There’s no reason you should pay any type of goofy fees like that, especially in today’s economy.

No matter how big or small your project is, when you need a roll off dumpster, make sure you’re dealing with a professional hauler with a great reputation. This is why we do the homework for you and make our recommendations based on facts and prior use of the garbage hauler listed as our top pick.

Tires are not “trash” in Jacksonville Dumpsters

From time to time we get the question “Can I throw used tires in my rental dumpster.” You may not know it but tires are not considered “regular” trash and are an extra expense if they’re found in your dumpster. If they are mixed in Trash Loads –They normally run $20 each. Old tires require special disposal/ recycling and can’t go to the regular landfill in Jacksonville. Any dumpster hauler you choose to use in Jacksonville will be able to provide you with the proper method of disposal.

Not many things make me madder than people taking advantage of me, but not just in business but my neighbors too… especially when it affects my business. Depending on your dumpster project and its location it always make sense to take a look in your dumpster to make sure no one else has helped themselves to your dumpster and dumped their tires there for you to deal with. Make sure you ask your hauler how to possibly get up to 4 tires at a time removed for no extra expense.

Remember “saving money is just like making money” so don’t make the costly mistake of putting tires in your roll off or frontload rental dumpster.

“Hidden Fees” on Dumpster Rentals in Jacksonville

This is one of the oldest tricks in the book when it comes to showing you a “low price” for a dumpster rental. Remember knowledge is power and saving money is just like making money. That’s the reason for this report.

Franchise Fees: In some areas of town there is a mandatory franchise fee that goes to the local government. Franchise fees are how the local government makes up for the loss of “city revenue” by letting the private sector handle the commercial waste removal. You can read about this fee in more detail here. http://www.hinkleycenter.com/publications/franchise_fees_00-06.pdf.

Since this isn’t “profit” for the hauler, some “less than forthcoming” sales reps will conveniently leave this “fee” out of their low ball offer just to get your business and you don’t see it until you get the final bill. They’d rather “beg for forgiveness than ask for permission” if you know what I mean.

Fuel and Environmental Fees: Most all haulers will be charging a fuel and environmental fee to your final bill to offset the continued increase in non-controllable changing environmental regulations costs like landfill cover material, engineering, environmental testing and maintenance of environmental systems. The Fuel Fee element may vary as the indexed price of fuel varies.  Once again, since these fees are not “profit”, but fees, some hauler’s sales reps will “conveniently” forget to mention them.  But just because they are not profit to the company doesn’t mean they’re not an expense to you and should be factored in when you’re figuring your budget for your dumpster rental project.

Make sure to ask what these are and if they apply to you. Don’t be a victim, be victorious and get a great deal on your next dumpster rental in Jacksonville Fl and the surrounding area.
